Richard Herrmann Associates were appointed by Spire Healthcare again, as the project Structural and Civil Engineering consultant for this exciting new hospital project.

The three-story, steel framed building was designed, analysed and detailed utilising the latest 3D modelling software. This allowed an efficient and close working relationship with the project architects Halliday Meecham.

Construction has now been completed and another impressive facility is open to Spire's patients.

Spire announced “This state-of-the-art facility will incorporate the most modern design and configuration concepts, with a capital investment from Spire planned to be around £60m. Spire Healthcare is one of the UK’s largest private hospital providers with 39 hospitals and 13 clinics nationwide.

Current plans for Spire Nottingham are for a contemporary and leading edge facility, housing the latest in medical technology, and equipped for the most complex surgeries. The new facility includes:

  • 56 patient beds
  • Outpatient area with 20 consulting rooms
  • An oncology suite
  • Three laminar flow/laparoscopic theatres and a hybrid theatre/catheter lab
  • An endoscopy suite
  • A Critical Care Unit
  • A fixed MRI and CT facility
  • An enhanced physiotherapy facility with access to the outside exercise area

The structure has been designed to perform under strict deflection and vibration criteria, whilst supporting specialist medical equipment. The piled foundation solution has been designed to be an effective and efficient method of supporting the significant building weight on the variable underlying soil, whilst also being relatively straightforward to construct.

The surface water and foul water drainage system was also modelled in 3D, with an attenuation pond providing the additional storage required to meet off-site flow rate criteria.
