This most commonly involves removal of one or more internal or external walls for which we would design the structure required to facilitate the alterations and make sure that the building continues to safely support the occupants.

Where drawings are not available to indicate the proposals to us, we would usually visit to carry out a measurement survey and ascertain what design might be involved. We would then prepare structural calculations that would be suitable for inclusion within a building regulations application made by the homeowner or their builder. The details that we issue can also be used by the builder to advise the costs of these works to the homeowner, as well as being suitable for use during construction.

Although a single wall removal is relatively straightforward, an experienced structural engineer brings expertise that can foresee and avoid issues that others might not appreciate. This becomes particularly important when overall building stability is affected by the proposals and we can offer advice to ensure the works are designed and built in the most appropriate and economic manner.
