Creating versatile, productive environments

Manufacturing facilities have one main goal in common; to drive productivity and maintain quality standards. That’s why designing these spaces with their purpose and user needs at the forefront is crucial. We work closely with building engineers and your management teams to understand these factors, problem-solve, and reach an appropriate plan of action that’s centred around overcoming your specific challenge.

With a deep understanding of the need for discretion and professionalism when dealing with commercially sensitive or high-cost processes, we have worked in many demanding areas and in sensitive production plants across Cambridge and the wider UK. The level of insight we can bring to the table, is one of the many reasons we continue to welcome repeat custom and new clients just like you.

Manufacturing demands adaptability—both in workflow and in space. Our approach to manufacturing facility design centres on delivering efficient layouts, logical structural sequencing, and scalable solutions tailored to diverse production needs. From fabrication halls to logistics hubs, we ensure each environment supports safety, speed, and performance without compromise. Let us help you engineer the kind of space where your people and your systems thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes manufacturing facility design different from other commercial buildings?

  • Manufacturing facilities require closer integration between structural design and operational needs, such as workflow efficiency, machinery loadings, and health and safety regulations. Environmental controls like ventilation, noise isolation, and fire risk are also key considerations. We design with these unique factors in mind to deliver performance-driven structures.

Do you provide engineering support for phased factory expansions?

  • Yes, we can design for current needs while planning for future expansion. Our engineers ensure that structural integrity is maintained across phases and that building services and access remain uninterrupted. Phased designs are ideal for manufacturers aiming to scale without shutting down production.

Can you work on live manufacturing sites?

  • Absolutely. Our team is experienced in delivering designs and inspections within active manufacturing environments. We plan work around your operations, using careful phasing and safety coordination to minimise disruption and ensure full compliance.

What sectors do you work with beyond manufacturing?

  • In addition to manufacturing, we support clients across healthcare, education, data centres, and more. Each sector brings unique challenges, and we tailor our structural and civil engineering solutions to fit those distinct requirements. Our diverse portfolio reflects the adaptability and technical depth of our team.

The chosen name by clients far and wide

Richard has been fantastic, assisting us with a structural survey and at a later stage calculating the necessary reinforcements of our mezzanine floor. He has been most professional and has worked well with our main contractors. I couldn't recommend him highly enough.

Case Study: Steel storage racking,
concrete production facility, UK.

Steel storage racking within an industrial manufacturing building had been struck by multiple impacts from fork lift trucks and required appraisal to ensure safe continued use of the production facility.

The columns were carefully inspected on site to assess the level and type of damage that had occurred.  The columns were then subsequently modelled using FE analysis, with varying degrees of damage compared and studied to establish which columns were in need of repair.

A remedial scheme was implemented on the basis of the analysis findings and detailed drawings were prepared to convey the scope of repairs whilst adopting minimal disruption to the production operations.
